The Women's Committee of the Philadelphia Art Museum Presents: Small Indulgences

Who wants to get a jump start on Spring Fashion!?  Silly question.  Who doesn't!?  Yesterday, I received an email from a "Philly Insider" about an upcoming two day shopping event.  I'll be polite and not mention names.  That said, I am honored that they are asking lil' ol' me to share about some Philly happenings.

The Women's Committee of the Philadelphia Art Museum is presenting a unique shopping event to all you fasionistas!  Small Indulgences 2011 will open it's doors for two days only!!  Around thirty vendors from all across the country will be showing off their latest and hottest one-of-a-kind jewelry, clothing, hand-made items, home accessories and much, much more hand-selected items.  Did we mention that the Women's Committee personally scouted out these one-of-a-kind goodies?  That's right, sophisticated, high class, art loving ladies acted as your personal shopper.

That's not even the best part...

Baby Jives Mobiles and Murals

Are you pregnant?  Cause all my friends are, which has put me in the mood for spring inspired baby rooms!  Jason and I get a little baby fever ourselves sometimes... although he'd never admit it.  I love when I happen upon Philadelphia based artisans.  In this case I was even more thrilled to discover  that the artisan is in my neighborhood.  East Falls is where it's at!!  (Not really, but we can pretend.... just for the sake of this post).

Jajhe and Joe Ives are the brains behind Baby Jives, a mural and artworks duo team who make incredible baby mobiles and modern murals.  The murals are great, but I am particularly impressed with the hand-crafted felt mobiles.

Head on over to Baby Jives' Etsy Shop to view more of these hand-crafted beauties or visit their website here.

I think, therefore Ikat

"I think, therefore I am"
Descartes

Or as we like to say, "I think therefore, Ikat."  Ok, ok, I may be a bit over-the-top.  However, using what little philosophical knowledge I can wrap my brain around, Ikat never ceases to exist.  It's the trend that never ends. One reason I am writing this post about the Ikat that we apparently can't get enough of... myself included, is to simply get Ikat out of my head.  Yes, I think Ikat.  Weird, but true.  And this stuff is Rad... that's right, Rad (capital R).

These bowls are from Antropologie (we seem to be blogging about them a lot lately), and are strikingly similar to the chevron mug Erin Gates shared about on her blog Elements of Style.

Isn't it ah-mazing!?  Ok, quit lusting over it for now, and let's redirect our focus to Ikat, or I may just shut-down from pattern overload.

Where I think an entire room of Ikat may be a wee bit [[ok, very much so]] over stimulating,
(sorry if you love it)

In small amounts such as pillows, blankets, rugs, etc. Ikat adds enough umph to a room to keep things interesting.  I'm loving New York City designer Jeffrey Bilhuber's subtle approach by simply adding a toss pillow to throw the room together.

Here are some Ikat products I spotted on Amazon that keeps me swooning:

I could wear those shoes every day!! Well, maybe every weekend.  I can only dream of being a heel goddess, and I applaud the woman that is.

Studio Inamminaiti Open House

Come join award winning instructors and artists this weekend at the annual Studio Incamminati Open House.  This event is open to the general public allowing local artists' the rare opportunity to bring in "representational artwork including Portrait, Figure, Still Life and Plein Air" (Philly Fun Guide) and receive a free 10 minute critique from professional award winning instructors.

If you're more of an admirer of art (like myself), but not exactly an artist, feel free to stop by too!  You will be able to step inside the private studios of artist such as Steve Early, Robin Frey, Leona Shanks, and Lea ColieWight.   Don't miss this opportunity to see live painting demonstrations, and perhaps strike up some conversation with Studio Incamminati instructors and artists themselves.

The Open House will be taking place this Friday from 4:30pm - 8:30pm and this Saturday from 12:00pm - 4:00pm.  Studio Incamminati is located at 340 North 12th Street in Philadelphia on the corners of 12th & Callowhill.

For more information, visit Studio Incaminnati's website or call the number in the above picture.

From Runway to Home: Spring 2011color trends

During New York Fashion Week in September 2010, Pantone announced the Spring 2011 color forecasts. Now that Spring has actually sprung, we are keeping our eyes peeled to see if this year's color trends actually come out to play.

 Photo: @issue

Not only can these colors work in your wardrobe, they can be incorporated into your home as well.  We've thrown together a little runway vs. home mix.  Hope you like it!

Honeysuckle

Honeysuckle, something between pink and coral (in my opinion), was proclaimed as the color of the year.  Here are some runway looks from Nina Ricci, Jill Sander, DKNY and Valentino.

Natalie Umbert, designer of Ateleir Natalie Umbert, decided to go bold with honeysuckle!  Check out the peacock rug!!  Look familiar?  I'm still swooning over it!

Punch Drunk Orange
That's not the real name for this color, but I find it quite suitable.

Simple and chic...

Just the way we like it.

There is definitely something dramatic about walking into a blue room.  Adding whites and creams creates a satisfying balance without taking away from the full effect.

Whites
I love wearing and decorating with white!!  It's all about the accessories.  Whether a simple green tote...

Or books by the bounties, colors definitely pop when paired with stark white!

So what do you think about this year's spring color forecast?

Emily Henderson, HGTV Design Star and writer of Style by Emily Henderson, may be whipping up some color trends of her own in this weeks episode (Did we mention this chic scored her on show!?) of Secrets from a Stylist as she transforms Joy Cho's LA space.   Joy, once a Philly girl (but not the only reason we love her), writes her own blog Oh Joy!, and has quite a knack for design herself.  Secrets from a Stylist airs tomorrow night, 6pm PST / 9pm EST.

I wanna make a terrarium...

Jojo at The Slug and the Squirrell does just the thing.  He was even recently featured on The New York Times Style Magazine blog.  Not only was I truly impressed with these "earthly delights", but I was totally stoked to see that Jojo is a local!!  That's right, you can find these little (and large) terrarium delights right here in Philly!

I've been totally smitten on terrariums ever since running into this beauty, seen here, at this year's Philadelphia International Flower Show.  These babies are extremely low maintenance which makes them absolutely perfect for tiny abode city dwellers such as ourselves and almost fool proof, but I'll let you know how that turns out later.  Let's just say I haven't had the best history with plant survival.  Yikes!  Anywhoo... check out these other terrariums that just may tickle your fancy.

A bright idea...

If you're ever in the Philadelphia area, be sure to check out Jojo's creations.  His terrariums will soon be available in Philadelphia's very own Anthropologie located at 18th and Walnut.  See below for a full store listing or check out his website The Slug and the Squirrell.
